All AOL External DNS servers are configured to be non-recursive. They contain only authoritative information for AOL domains. Pointing a DNS client directly at them will yield less than desirable results.
AOL members, AOL partners and non-AOL partners rely upon AOL External DNS servers. External DNS servers are geographically distributed in North America to provide diversity, both in network topology and geography.
